Family
and Valley Information
In the 1930’s, my father and mother sought the perfect place to live,
their Shangri-La. We took family outings from our home in Santa
Barbara throughout the Pacific northwest.
My parents search ended when they found Hyampom, a place for our
family to grow and garden and a place of plentiful mountain streams for
fly-fishing. My sister and I
grew up in Hyampom. I met my
husband here during the 1940s. We built our home and raised our family in
this bucolic valley.
At 1250’ elevation, Hyampom is a river valley on the South Fork of the
Trinity River nestled in mountain ranges, two hours west of Redding, in
Trinity County. It’s a town
of 150 inhabitants. A store provides only bare essentials. Five
roads allow access for the adventurous in the summer.
The main Hyampom road is open in all seasons, and there is an
excellent airport with a 3580’ runway.
Spring offers air perfumed by wild blooms and the sound of birdsong.
Mountain roads on Public Lands provide leisure morning birding
excursions or exhilarating mountain biking ventures.
Summer beckons restful afternoons spent reading a good book at the
river’s edge between dips in the deep clear water.
Autumn brings changing colors and a smell of overripe fruit
mingling with the scent of first rain. Squirrels and gardeners are
busy with the harvest. Grapes are crushed and pressed into wine,
apples to juice. Winter insists with rain, and mornings are crisp with
frost while steelhead return to spawn and fight the angler that might
be tempted to challenge them. We
welcome you to discover what any season has to offer from the comfort of
our peaceful guest cottage set in beautiful surroundings.
